Epson was founded in 1961. The company delivered parts for the watch manufacturer Seiko. As a result of the cooperation between those two companies Shinshu Seiki Co. (today Epson) developed the line printer EP-101 in 1964, which was later integrated into many calculators. At the end of the 80s the company, which was known as Epson at that time, developed and sold an eighty-column dot-matrix printer for computers.
Epson's first inkjet printer with ink cartridges was released to the market in 1984. In the early 90s Epson launched with its Stylus Series small and low-priced inkjet printers, which were designed for private use.
In addition to inkjet printers for private use Epson also offers devices of the "Epson Workforce" series, which were designed for high quality photo prints. Apart from matrix printers and inkjet printers Epson also manufactures many laser printers, such as the Epson Aculaser.
